Mine Mutlu — Biography

Born Emine Özatmaca on November 28, 1948, in Istanbul, Mine Mutlu won a beauty pageant and was crowned Miss Turkey before entering the film industry at the age of 19. From 1967 onward she quickly became a familiar face amid the high-volume production pace of Turkey's Yeşilçam cinema.

Over the course of her career she appeared in close to seventy films, most often taking lead roles in the melodramas and family dramas typical of the era. Her credits include 'Kadın Severse' (1968), 'Tahran Macerası' (1968), 'Ala Geyik' (1969) and 'Hayat Kavgası' (1969), in some of which she starred opposite leading actors of the day such as Cüneyt Arkın.

Mutlu died in Istanbul on September 18, 1990, at just 42, and was later remembered in the Turkish press as one of Yeşilçam's most tragic stars. Years afterward, a television series that dramatized her life story prompted her daughter, Büşra Çulha, to object publicly to the exposure of her mother's private life.
