Painful Memories (Acı Hatıralar) (translated)

Acı Hatıralar ("Bitter Memories") is a 1977 Turkish-Iranian co-production, a melodrama with musical elements co-directed by Atıf Yılmaz and İreç Kadiri (Iraj Ghaderi) and produced by Erler Film. The leads are played by Emel Sayın, as a nightclub singer, and Sadri Alışık, as the club owner who discovers her talent.

The plot follows the singer's romance with a customer who is secretly involved in smuggling; the relationship is tested by a forced exile abroad, misunderstandings, and a prison sentence before the truth comes out years later and the couple is reunited, with the story moving between Istanbul and Tehran.
