Movie · 1959 · 3 people

Archimède le clochard, also known in English as The Magnificent Tramp, is a 1959 Franco-Italian comedy-drama directed by Gilles Grangier and released on 8 April 1959. The screenplay was written by Albert Valentin and Michel Audiard, working from an original idea by Jean Gabin himself, credited under his birth name Jean Moncorgé. Gabin stars in the title role, supported by Bernard Blier and Dora Doll. The film was selected for the 9th Berlin International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Bear; although the top prize went to another French production, Gabin received the Silver Bear for Best Actor for his performance as Archimède. Shot in French, the picture blends comedy with social drama and remains one of the notable Gabin vehicles of the late 1950s.
