Guy Decomble — Biography

Guy Decomble was a French actor whose career spanned film and television, born in Aulnay-sous-Bois on 12 November 1910 and died in Châtellerault on 14 August 1964. Across roughly three decades of work he built a reputation as a dependable character player, taking on dozens of supporting parts in French cinema of the postwar years. He is most remembered today for playing the schoolteacher in François Truffaut's The 400 Blows. That same year he also appeared in Claude Chabrol's The Cousins, having earlier taken the role of the police commissioner in Jean-Pierre Melville's Bob le Flambeur. His screen credits stretch back to Jean Renoir's 1935 production The Crime of Monsieur Lange, and his final film, The Straight Line, was released in the year of his death.
