Les Jeux de l'amour (Askin cilveleri)

Movie · 1960 · 4 people

Les Jeux de l'amour, released in Turkey as Aşkın Cilveleri, is a 1960 French romantic comedy that launched Philippe de Broca's career behind the camera. The principal roles went to two rising young performers, Jean-Pierre Cassel and Geneviève Cluny, and the picture proved to be their breakthrough. De Broca shared writing duties with Daniel Boulanger. At roughly 86 minutes, the film already displays the breezy, playful touch that would come to characterize the director's later comedies, and its ensemble even includes Claude Chabrol, reflecting how intertwined the new generation of French filmmakers was at the time. The picture competed at the 10th Berlin International Film Festival, where it took home the Silver Bear Extraordinary Jury Prize. Its path to American screens was bumpier: customs officials held up clearance for exhibition, leading the distributor to threaten court action to get the film shown.
