Betty Blue

Betty Blue, originally titled 37°2 le matin, is a 1986 French psychological drama film written and directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix, adapted from Philippe Djian's 1985 novel of the same name. Its title refers to a pregnant woman's normal morning body temperature. The story follows Zorg, a bungalow caretaker and aspiring writer, whose quiet, orderly life is transformed when the free-spirited and unpredictable Betty appears. Béatrice Dalle and Jean-Hugues Anglade star, with Vincent Lindon, Jacques Mathou, Gérard Darmon and Dominique Pinon in supporting roles.

As Betty's passionate yet increasingly fragile mental state deepens, the couple's love drifts between devotion and destruction. The film ranked among the highest-grossing releases of 1986 in France and earned Academy Award and BAFTA nominations for Best Foreign Language Film in 1987. Shown in cinemas in a shortened version, it was later reissued in 1991 as a director's cut running 63 minutes longer.
