Vincent Lindon — Biography
Vincent Lindon was born on 15 July 1959 in Boulogne-Billancourt; his grandfather Raymond Lindon was a magistrate and mayor of Étretat, his uncle Jérôme Lindon ran the publishing house Éditions de Minuit, and through his mother he descends from French prime minister Jules Dufaure. After earning his baccalauréat at Lycée Victor-Duruy, he dropped out of business school after 22 days and entered the film world through an internship his mother arranged as a costume assistant on Alain Resnais's My American Uncle, later training at the Cours Florent drama school. He took to the stage in 1983 and, over nearly three decades, was nominated for the César five times without winning; his performance in Stéphane Brizé's The Measure of a Man finally brought him best actor at both Cannes and the 41st César ceremony in 2015, plus an award from the International Film Festival of India. He presided over the main-competition jury at Cannes in 2022, and in 2024 won the Volpi Cup at Venice for The Quiet Son. Over his career he has worked with directors including Claude Sautet, Claude Lelouch, Claire Denis and Julia Ducournau. He married actress Sandrine Kiberlain in 1998 and later separated from her; their daughter, Suzanne Lindon, has also become an actress.
