C'est la vie

C'est la vie (French title: La Baule-les-Pins) is a semi-autobiographical French drama from 1990, written and directed by Diane Kurys. Set in the summer of 1958 at the French seaside resort of La Baule-les-Pins, the story unfolds largely through voice-over drawn from the diary of thirteen-year-old Frédérique. Like Kurys's earlier films Peppermint Soda, Cocktail Molotov and Entre Nous, it returns to the theme of divorce and its effects on a family, forming part of a series of works freely inspired by the lives of the director's parents — in this case, their separation. The film runs 110 minutes, with Alain Le Henry also credited on the screenplay, and features Nathalie Baye and Vincent Lindon among its cast.
