Our Story (Notre histoire) (translated)
Notre histoire comes from 1984 and from Bertrand Blier, who wrote and directed this French film. Also known internationally as Our Story or Separate Rooms, it opened in France on 24 May 1984. It is described as an absurdist drama, with Alain Delon and Nathalie Baye in the leading roles. The French-language film runs about 110 minutes.
At its centre is Robert Avranche, an alcoholic played by Delon in a part quite unlike his usual ones. The man is torn between his love of drink and his love for a woman he met on a train. Blier also touches on the theme of a woman's dissatisfaction. Besides Delon and Baye, the cast includes Michel Galabru, Vincent Lindon, Bernard Farcy, Geneviève Fontanel, Gérard Darmon, Ginette Garcin, Jacques Denis, Jean-François Stévenin, Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Paul Guers and Philippe Laudenbach.
The film won two prizes at the 1985 César Awards: Alain Delon took best actor and Bertrand Blier best screenplay. It was also nominated for best editing and best production design. Despite the awards, it failed at the box office.
