Calmos

Calmos is a 1976 French satirical comedy written and directed by Bertrand Blier, his fourth feature film. It follows two anti-heroes, played by Jean-Pierre Marielle and Jean Rochefort, who dream of a quiet life away from women. Their attitude toward the opposite sex, however, produces the opposite effect, turning them into the focus and target of the women around them. Often explicit in its treatment of the battle of the sexes, the film mocks both the feminist movement then gaining ground in France and the traditional behaviour of French men. Produced by Les Films Christian Fechner, it failed to match the success of Blier's previous film, Les Valseuses, and is regarded as the director's first commercial disappointment.
