Going Places

Going Places (Les Valseuses) is a 1974 French comedy-drama written and directed by Bertrand Blier, adapted from his own novel with co-screenwriter Philippe Dumarçay. It follows Jean-Claude and Pierrot, two young drifters who draw a hairdresser's assistant, Marie-Ange, into their aimless escapades across France. Gérard Depardieu, Patrick Dewaere and Miou-Miou all had their breakthrough roles in the film.

Released in France on 20 March 1974 with a ban on minors, it met a hostile critical reception yet attracted over three million moviegoers. Its vulgarity, sexual content and amorality made it one of the most controversial films in French cinema, while Blier's later acclaim turned it into a cult favorite for modern critics. The cast also includes Jeanne Moreau, Brigitte Fossey and, in one of her earliest roles, Isabelle Huppert.
