L'Étudiante

L'Étudiante ("The Student") is a romantic comedy-drama released in 1988 as a French-Italian co-production. It was directed by Claude Pinoteau, who wrote the script with Danièle Thompson and Gianni Romoli. Shot in French, it runs 92 minutes. Besides Gaumont, the producers include TV 1 Films Productions and Cecchi Gori Group Tiger Cinematografica.

The story centres on an ambitious young woman training to be a teacher, busy preparing for her final exams, whose studies are interrupted by a passionate affair with a jazz musician. Sophie Marceau and Vincent Lindon head the cast, joined by Élisabeth Vitali and Jean-Claude Leguay.

The film opened in French cinemas on 10 October 1988 and sold 1,583,067 tickets in France. Because it was the third collaboration between Pinoteau and Marceau after La Boum and La Boum 2, and follows a similar pattern, it is widely known informally as La Boum 3.
