Give Me Some Comfort (Bir Teselli Ver) (translated)

Bir Teselli Ver is a 1971 Turkish drama with musical elements, shot on 35mm by director Lütfi Ömer Akad, who used the story to address the rapid, unplanned urbanization of Istanbul's shantytowns. Its main claim to fame is introducing composer-singer Orhan Gencebay to cinema in his acting debut — he had no prior acting experience, so his dialogue was dubbed by voice actor Toron Karacaoğlu, while the songs he performed were released commercially on the İstanbul Plak label.

The supporting cast includes Kadir Savun, Turgut Boralı, Feridun Çölgeçen, Güzin Özipek and Ahmet Danyal Topatan. Blending Akad's social-realist sensibility with melodrama and music, the film is often cited as an early landmark of the Turkish arabesk-drama genre that Gencebay himself would come to define.
