Movie · 1971 · 3 people

Bir Teselli Ver ("Give Me Some Comfort") is a colour Turkish drama that Lütfi Ömer Akad shot on 35 mm in 1971; it runs about 93 minutes. On release it was watched by everyone and has since been counted among the classics of Turkish cinema. Its lead is Orhan Gencebay, one of the most important names in Turkish music, in his first film. Akad and Safa Önal wrote the script.

At the centre is a young man devoted to music. He becomes involved with the daughter of the boss of the factory where he works, but class divisions make the relationship impossible. Telling this story, Akad also touches on the spread of shantytowns; the film takes its shape from the dreams and daily lives of the urban poor. Gencebay appeared with no acting experience at all, and his voice was dubbed by Toron Karacaoğlu. The songs in the film were sung by Gencebay and released on the İstanbul Plak label. Combining Akad's social-realist outlook with melodrama and music, the film is counted among the early examples of the arabesk musical drama in Turkish cinema.

Güzin Özipek, Kadir Savun, Osman Alyanak, Turgut Boralı, Feridun Çölgeçen and Ahmet Danyal Topatan are also in the cast.
