Kadir Savun — Biography

Kadir Savun was born on 15 August 1926 in the village of Doruksaray, in the İliç district of Erzincan. After his father, a police officer, was posted to Istanbul, the family moved there while he was still young; he left Kabataş High School before graduating, worked a series of odd jobs, and entered the film industry in the late 1940s.

Over a career spanning more than sixty years and well over a hundred films and series, Savun became known in Yeşilçam for playing warm, fatherly characters and "poor but proud" roles, earning him the affectionate nickname "Baba Kadir" (Father Kadir). He worked frequently with director Osman F. Seden and appeared in productions such as Yılanların Öcü, Deli Yusuf and Kara Murat Şeyh Gaffar'a Karşı.

Kadir Savun died in Istanbul on 10 October 1995.
