Arabesque (Arabesk) (translated)

Arabesk is a 1988 Turkish comedy film directed by Ertem Eğilmez from a screenplay by Gani Müjde, released in February 1989. A co-production of Arzu Film and Erler Film, it was Eğilmez's final work: the director completed it from his sickbed by watching the footage and guiding his crew, and he died three months after seeing the edited film. Its absurdist humor, mocking both the arabesque craze dominating the era's cinema and the pseudo-intellectuals of Yeşilçam, stirred controversy in Turkey.

Müjde, the daughter of a village landowner, and Şener, who have loved each other since childhood, are separated through a scheme of her father and migrate to Istanbul without knowing of each other's move. Their paths cross with the King of the Nightclubs as they struggle to reunite despite the constant interference of Kaya. Şener Şen, Müjde Ar and Uğur Yücel headline a cast that also includes Rasim Öztekin, Kadir Savun and Tarık Papuççuoğlu.
