Çakırcalı Mehmet Efe

Çakırcalı Mehmet Efe is a 1950 black-and-white Turkish adventure-drama adapted from Murat Sertoğlu's novel of the same name. It was written and directed by Faruk Kenç, one of the leading figures of early Turkish cinema, and produced jointly by İstanbul Film (Kenç) and And Film (Turgut Demirağ), with cinematography by Enver Burçkin and music by Şadi Yaver Ataman. The film premiered in Istanbul at Taksim Cinema on 6 October 1950.

Taking its title from the real-life bandit (efe) Çakırcalı Mehmet Efe, who gained notoriety in the Aegean region in the late 19th century, the film follows his life story from childhood to death. Its cast includes Sadri Alışık, Gülistan Güzey, and Kadir Savun. Two years later, Faruk Kenç directed a sequel, 'Çakırcalı Mehmet Efe'nin Definesi' (The Treasure of Çakırcalı Mehmet Efe), turning the story into a series.
