The innocent (Günahsızlar) (translated)

Movie · 1944 · 2 people

Günahsızlar is a 1944 black-and-white Turkish drama film directed and produced by Faruk Kenç, with a screenplay by Mualla Kenç and cinematography by Kemal Baysal, made under the İstanbul Film banner. Set in a fishing village, the story follows a young woman left alone after her mother is killed; the village headman places her with a trusted fisherman's family, and the family's son gradually falls in love with her.

According to the director's own later account, the parts of the story concerning the girl's mother ran into the censorship rules of the era, forcing the script to be reworked during production. Sadri Alışık plays the fisherman in the lead role, with Halit Akçatepe also in the cast. The film is counted among the early works of Turkish cinema, made before Yeşilçam's studio system had fully taken shape.
