Bobby Deerfield

Directed by Sydney Pollack, Bobby Deerfield is a 1977 American romantic drama adapted by screenwriter Alvin Sargent from Erich Maria Remarque's 1961 novel Heaven Has No Favorites. Al Pacino portrays a celebrated American Formula One driver racing on the European circuit, a hardened man accustomed to facing death on the track. His world shifts when he meets Lilian Morelli, played by Marthe Keller, a refined and mysterious Swiss woman with whom he falls deeply in love. Lilian, however, conceals a painful truth: she is suffering from an incurable illness. Her tragic fate reshapes Bobby's understanding of life while pulling him into a decline both on the circuit and in spirit. The production draws on genuine racing footage captured during the 1976 Formula One season, and Pacino's performance brought him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a drama film.
