André Valardy — Biography
Born André Knoblauch on May 17, 1938, in the Borgerhout district of Antwerp, André Valardy trained as an actor at the Cours Simon in Paris. Known for the remarkable flexibility of his facial muscles, which let him shift between wildly different expressions and characters, he was nicknamed the 'rubber man' and the 'chameleon man' by the French press.
A Belgian comedian, actor and director who built most of his career in French cinema, Valardy appeared in films such as 'Bang-Bang' (1967), 'L'emmerdeur' (1973), 'Bobby Deerfield' (1977) opposite Al Pacino, and 'La Chèvre' (1981) alongside Gérard Depardieu and Pierre Richard, as well as 'Lévy et Goliath' (1987) and 'En toute innocence' (1988).
Later in his career he appeared in the 1998 film 'Que la lumière soit'. Valardy died on April 30, 2007, in the 14th arrondissement of Paris.
