State Reasons

State Reasons (original title: La Raison d'État, Italian: Ragione di stato) is a 1978 French-Italian political drama written and directed by André Cayatte. The film belongs to Cayatte's long line of works preoccupied with questions of justice, power, and the relationship between the individual and the state apparatus. Italian star Monica Vitti heads the cast, alongside leading French actors Jean Yanne and Michel Bouquet, with supporting performances from François Périer, André Valardy, and Jess Hahn. Shot in French as a co-production between France and Italy, the film runs about 95 minutes and was released on 26 April 1978.
