Anatomy of a Marriage: My Days with Jean-Marc (Jean-Marc ou la Vie conjugale)
Anatomy of a Marriage: My Days with Jean-Marc is a 1964 French drama by André Cayatte, who is both its director and its screenwriter. The film is a co-production of France, West Germany and Italy, is spoken in French and is shot in black and white. It runs 112 minutes. Sources list its genre as drama, romance and comedy-drama, and it belongs to a two-film work that goes by the French title La Vie conjugale (married life).
The two films tell the same marriage from opposite sides: Jean-Marc ou la Vie conjugale and Françoise ou la Vie conjugale. One relays events through the husband's eyes, the other through the wife's. Both cover five key events in a couple's life and show how a marriage comes apart from two different viewpoints. Marie-José Nat plays Françoise, Michel Subor Roger and Macha Méril Nicole. Alfred Adam, Jacques Monod, Henri Crémieux, Jacques Charrier and Blanchette Brunoy are also in the cast.
