Mandrin, bandit gentilhomme

Mandrin, bandit gentilhomme is a 1962 French-Italian historical adventure directed by Jean-Paul Le Chanois. The picture takes its inspiration from the career of Louis Mandrin, the notorious 18th-century smuggler who challenged the royal tax system under Louis XV and came to be seen as a folk hero. Told as a swashbuckling tale full of swordplay, chases and narrow escapes, it follows his clashes with the forces sent to hunt him down. Georges Rivière, Silvia Monfort, Jeanne Valérie and Dany Robin head the cast, from a screenplay by René Havard, Claude Desailly and Arthur Bernède. Exterior filming took place near Zakopane in southern Poland and at the Château de Vigny outside Paris, with sets created by art director Anatol Radzinowicz.
