Papa, Mama, the Maid and I (Papa, maman, la bonne et moi) (translated)
Papa, maman, la bonne et moi (Papa, Mama, the Maid and I) is a 1954 French comedy directed by Jean-Paul Le Chanois. Running about 96 minutes, it was expanded to feature length from a sketch by Robert Lamoureux. A sequel, Papa, maman, ma femme et moi, followed two years after its release, and the two comedies were later turned into the stage play Papa, maman, la bonne et... vous.
The story centres on an ordinary French family living in an apartment building in Montmartre. The film follows the family's dealings with its neighbours, the local shopkeepers and the household maid through everyday episodes, told with a light, witty touch. Robert Lamoureux heads the cast, joined by Gaby Morlay, Fernand Ledoux and Nicole Courcel, and a young Louis de Funès is also among the actors.
The film was also shown in the Soviet Union, in a dubbed version made by the Gorky Film Studio. It was the first Louis de Funès film released in Soviet cinemas and the first of his films dubbed there.
