Don Camillo's Last Round

Don Camillo's Last Round (Italian: Don Camillo e l'onorevole Peppone; French: La grande bagarre de Don Camillo) is a 1955 Italian-French comedy directed by Carmine Gallone. The third of five films adapted from Giovannino Guareschi's stories, it stars Fernandel as the village priest Don Camillo and Gino Cervi as his communist rival, Mayor Peppone; Gallone took over directing duties from Julien Duvivier, who had helmed the first two entries. Shooting took place at Rome's Cinecittà studios and on location in Boretto and Brescello in Emilia-Romagna, with sets designed by art director Virgilio Marchi.

The film carries the familiar feud between priest and mayor onto a political stage. Produced by Cineriz, its screenplay credits Guareschi alongside René Barjavel and Leonardo Benvenuti. Drawing more than five million admissions in France, it was followed in the series by Don Camillo Monseigneur.
