Flesh Will Surrender
Flesh Will Surrender, known in Italian as Il delitto di Giovanni Episcopo, is a 1947 Italian drama directed by Alberto Lattuada. The screenplay, written by Lattuada together with Suso Cecchi d'Amico and Piero Tellini, draws on Gabriele D'Annunzio's novel Giovanni Episcopo, published in 1891. Produced by Lux Film, the picture stars Alberto Sordi and Silvana Mangano, supported by actors including Aldo Fabrizi, Roldano Lupi and Yvonne Sanson. With a running time of roughly 94 minutes, it was shown in the official selection of the 1947 Cannes Film Festival, earning international attention soon after its release. The film is counted among the literary adaptations that marked postwar Italian cinema.
