Khaspush

Khaspush is a 1927 silent Soviet Armenian film directed by Hamo Beknazaryan. Its story draws on a narrative by the writer Raffi together with Vrtanes Papazyan's writings on Persia under Qajar rule.

The film portrays the uprising of impoverished peasants and craftsmen — the khas-push — in late nineteenth-century Persia against the arbitrary rule of the Qajar shah and British influence in the country. Produced by Armenfilm, it stars Hıraçya Nersesyan; the Soviet Armenian actor Avet Avetisyan also appears in the cast. Among Beknazaryan's silent-era works, Khaspush is notable for its social themes.
