Zare

Zare is a roughly 72-minute silent film made in 1926 by Hamo Beknazaryan, one of the founding figures of Armenian cinema. Produced by Armenfilm and inspired by a text of the same name by Hakob Ghazaryan, it is regarded as the first Armenian film dedicated to Kurdish culture, portraying the life of the Yazidi Kurdish community within the Soviet Union. The film tells the love story of young Zare and the shepherd Seydo under the shadow of tradition and tyranny, with Hıraçya Nersesyan appearing in the cast. Noted for its ethnographic richness, it is counted among the significant works of Soviet silent cinema.
