The Law of the Wolf (Kurt Kanunu) (translated)

Kurt Kanunu (“The Law of the Wolf”) is a Turkish historical drama film directed by Ersin Pertan, dated 1991-1992 in the sources. Adapted from Kemal Tahir's 1969 novel of the same name, with a screenplay also written by Pertan, it dramatizes the assassination plot planned against President Mustafa Kemal Pasha in İzmir in 1926.

The story unfolds against the harsh, uncertain landscape of Anatolia in the early years of the Turkish Republic, when the decisive steps building the new state's foundations coexisted with resistance and wounds that refused to close. On this political backdrop, the film follows individual stories and personal conflicts as they run their course.

The leading roles are shared by Mehmet Akan, Aslı Altan, Hümeyra, Berhan Şimşek, Şahika Tekand and Yılmaz Zafer, with Rasim Öztekin also in the cast. A 99-minute colour production shot on 35 mm, it features music by Arif Erkin and cinematography by Aytekin Çakmakçı; Ersin Pertan and İrfan Tözüm produced the film for Sarmal Aş.
