Hümeyra — Biography

Hümeyra, whose real name is Fatma Hümeyra Akbay, is a Turkish singer, composer, lyricist, and actress born on October 15, 1947. Born in Istanbul, she was discovered in the 1960s while working as a graphic designer at a record company, singing one of her own compositions, and thus received her first record offer.

Between 1969 and 1970, he released a series of 45s; songs like "Kördüğüm" (The Knot), "Sessiz Gemi" (Silent Ship), and "Otuz Beş Yaş" (Thirty-Five Years Old) gained great fame in the 1970s and remain popular today. His discography includes the albums "Anlatamıyorum" (I Can't Explain) (1977), "Tutkulardan İntihar" (Suicide from Passions) (1990), "Beyhude" (In Vain) (1997), and "Benim Şarkılarım" (My Songs) (2010).

Hümeyra, who also turned to acting during the same period, appeared in films from the 1970s onwards; she acted in films such as Talihli Amele (1980), Kırık Bir Aşk Hikayesi (1981), Mine (1982) and Asiye Nasıl Kurtulur? (1986). She took on important roles in Çağan Irmak's films Babam ve Oğlum (2005), Dedemin İnsanları (2011) and Unutursam Fısılda (2014).

In the 2000s, she gained popularity among new generations with her roles as İffet Sütçüoğlu in Avrupa Yakası and Yalan Dünya, written by Gülse Birsel; she acted in Melekler Korusun and the International Emmy Award-winning Şahsiyet, played the character Maide in the series Paramparça, and appeared in the film Biz Böyleyiz in 2020.
