My Grandfather's People (Dedemin İnsanları) (translated)

My Grandfather's People is a Turkish drama film written and directed by Çağan Irmak, released in cinemas on November 25, 2011. Produced by Most Production and Ay Yapım, it takes viewers into the world of ten-year-old Ozan and his grandfather Mehmet Bey, who live in a small coastal town in the Aegean region. Mehmet Bey is a Cretan migrant who was forced to leave Crete for İzmir with his family at the age of seven during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey.

Teased as "gavur" by his friends because of his roots, Ozan rebels against his family out of fear of exclusion, while his grandfather, a respected and charitable figure in town, grieves over the boy's anger. Hoping to see his birthplace once more before he dies, Mehmet Bey casts bottles containing letters into the Aegean waters. The film stars Çetin Tekindor and Hümeyra, with Yiğit Özşener, Gökçe Bahadır, Mert Fırat, Ezgi Mola, and Zafer Algöz also in the cast.
