Ushan Çakır — Biography

Ushan Çakır was born on 23 May 1984 in the Karşıyaka district of İzmir. He trained as an actor at Istanbul University's State Conservatory and attended several acting workshops abroad; performing in private theatre productions, he received a number of Turkish theatre honors, including the Sadri Alışık, Afife Jale and Theatre Writers' Association awards.

He began his screen career in 2005 with the series Belalı Baldız and played the character Damat Ferit in Gece Gündüz in 2008. He moved into film in 2011 with Çağan Irmak's Dedemin İnsanları, and gained wide recognition that same year as Arda in Leyla ile Mecnun, though he left the series after both his and co-star Ezgi Asaroğlu's contracts were terminated following a physical altercation between the two. His performance in the 2012 film Uzun Hikaye earned him the Best Actor award at the 20th Odessa International Film Festival. In the years that followed he appeared in the series Kurt Seyit ve Şura, Kara Ekmek, Muhteşem Yüzyıl Kösem, Masum Değiliz and Avlu, and portrayed Zaganos Pasha in the docudrama Rise of Empires: Ottoman. He plays the character Mehmet in the Kanal D series Kara Yazı.

Çakır became engaged to actress Damla Sönmez in July 2017; after roughly nine years together, their separation was reported in spring 2026.
