Birkan Sokullu — Biography
Born in Istanbul to a family of Bosnian descent, Birkan Sokullu played licensed basketball in his youth and turned to modeling after finishing third in the 2003 Best Model of Turkey contest while studying Radio and Television Programming at Maltepe University.
Drawn to acting through lessons with Dolunay Soysert, he followed appearances in Küçük Kadınlar and Melekler Korusun with his breakout role as Demir Karaman in Küçük Sırlar in 2010. He went on to play Şehzade Mustafa in Fatih (2013), Petro in Kurt Seyit ve Şura (2014), and Kerim Cevher in Hayat Şarkısı.
In 2020 he won critical acclaim as Han Derenoğlu in Masumlar Apartmanı and reached an international audience playing the Genoese commander Giovanni Giustiniani in the Netflix production Rise of Empires: Ottoman. Following Yüz Yıllık Mucize (2023) and Romantik Hırsız (2024), he began filming the Netflix series Palas Pandıras, directed by Selman Nacar, in 2026.
