Rise of Empires: Ottoman

Rise of Empires: Ottoman is a Turkish historical docudrama made for Netflix, combining dramatized scenes with documentary-style commentary from historians. Directed by Emre Şahin and written by Kelly McPherson, its first season of six episodes arrived on 24 January 2020. The series centers on Sultan Mehmed II, known as Mehmed the Conqueror (Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu), and recounts the 15th-century conquest of Constantinople, the event that ended the Byzantine Empire and reshaped the Ottoman state. The second season, also six episodes, premiered on 29 December 2022 and shifts focus to Mehmed's 1462 campaign in Wallachia and his rivalry with Vlad III, the Impaler. Alongside Üzümoğlu, the cast includes Tuba Büyüküstün, Damla Sönmez, Osman Sonant and Selim Bayraktar. Blending reenactments with expert analysis, the production brings two defining chapters of Ottoman history to a global audience.
