Luchino Visconti

Luchino Visconti is a 1999 Italian documentary directed by Carlo Lizzani, conceived as a montage film about the life and artistic legacy of the celebrated Italian filmmaker. It was released in France under the title "Luchino Visconti, la vie comme un roman" — life as a novel — reflecting its narrative approach to its subject.

Running about an hour, the film features appearances by Claudia Cardinale, Marcello Mastroianni and Jean Marais, performers closely associated with Visconti's cinema. Co-written by Lizzani and Luigi Filippo D'Amico, the documentary assembles archival material to portray the director both as an artist and as a man.
