Memlekette Demokrasi Var

Memlekette Demokrasi Var is a Turkish drama-comedy directed by Süleyman Nebioğlu, released in cinemas on 3 December 2010. The story reaches back to the days before the execution of Adnan Menderes, who served as prime minister between 1950 and 1960. A group of villagers resolve to rescue Menderes, held prisoner on the island of Yassıada, and set about building a bomb out of 100,000 matchsticks. Their plan is to carry it to the island through an undersea passage and detonate it there, then spirit Menderes out along the same tunnel amid the confusion. Approaching one of the most contested chapters of recent Turkish history through humour, the film stars Müjdat Gezen, who also produced it, with Tamer Karadağlı and Şafak Sezer appearing as guest actors.
