My Name Is Shanghai Joe
My Name Is Shanghai Joe (Il mio nome è Shanghai Joe) is a 1973 Italian production directed by Mario Caiano that merges the spaghetti western with kung fu action. Chen Lee stars as the title hero, a Chinese martial artist who travels to the American frontier and, despite carrying no gun, stands up to the armed men who cross him using nothing but his fighting skills. The supporting cast includes Klaus Kinski, Gordon Mitchell, Piero Lulli and Robert Hundar. Overseas the picture circulated under a string of alternative names, such as To Kill or to Die and The Dragon Strikes Back in English-language markets and Karate Jack in Germany, where it opened in a cut-down version in January 1974. Bitto Albertini helmed a 1975 sequel, Il ritorno di Shanghai Joe (Che botte ragazzi!).
