Gordon Mitchell — Biography

Gordon Mitchell, born Charles Allen Pendleton on 29 July 1923 in Denver, Colorado, died on 20 September 2003 in Marina del Rey, California. After studying at the University of Southern California he became known as a bodybuilder before building a long career in Italian sword-and-sandal pictures and spaghetti westerns. He brought his imposing physique to peplum films such as Julius Caesar Against the Pirates and The Centurion, and also appeared in western entries tied to the Django and Sartana cycles. Across more than a hundred mostly low-budget Italian productions he specialized in playing tough, taciturn characters. Later in his career he turned up in horror pictures including Frankenstein's Castle of Freaks. Though he never claimed a top bodybuilding title, he was a well-known figure from that sport's early years before shifting his focus fully to acting.
