Satyricon

Fellini Satyricon is a 1969 Italian-French film written and directed by Federico Fellini, loosely adapted from Petronius's fragmentary satirical work written during the reign of Emperor Nero. Told in nine episodes, the story follows the young student Encolpius and his friend Ascyltus as they compete for the affection of a boy named Gitón, wandering through a surreal, dreamlike vision of pre-Christian Imperial Rome. Their adventures reveal a society absorbed in pleasure and excess, punctuated by conversations on religion, life and sexuality, while the deliberately disjointed structure mirrors the incomplete nature of the ancient source. Martin Potter and Hiram Keller star alongside Max Born, Magali Noël, Capucine and Alain Cuny. Produced by Alberto Grimaldi and shot at Cinecittà studios, the film features music by Nino Rota with contributions from İlhan Mimaroğlu. It won the Pasinetti Award for Best Italian Film at the Venice Film Festival, earned Fellini an Academy Award nomination for Best Director, and was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
