The Revenge of Spartacus
The Revenge of Spartacus is a 1964 Italian adventure film directed by Michele Lupo. Shot in the sword-and-sandal tradition that flourished in Italian cinema during the 1960s, it belongs to a wave of productions marketed as unofficial follow-ups to Stanley Kubrick's 1960 Spartacus, trading on that film's popularity. The screenplay was written by Lionello De Felice and Ernesto Gastaldi. The cast features familiar faces of the peplum genre, including Roger Browne, Scilla Gabel, Giacomo Rossi-Stuart, Gordon Mitchell and Nello Pazzafini. According to some sources, it was filmed back-to-back with Seven Slaves Against the World. Running about 105 minutes in Italian, the picture reached American audiences under the title Revenge of the Gladiators, one of several alternate names it carried as it circulated internationally.
