The Waterfall (Şellale)

Şellale (The Waterfall) is a 2001 Turkish comedy-drama written and directed by Semir Aslanyürek. It opened nationwide in Turkey on 16 November 2001.

The story follows a celebrated painter who journeys back to his hometown and begins to remember the childhood he spent in a household split by politics during the tense period leading up to the 1960 military coup. The narrative draws on the director's own early years, giving the film an autobiographical quality.

Author Rekin Teksoy praised the picture as a lively and fresh portrait of the filmmaker's childhood. The ensemble cast features Hülya Koçyiğit, Tuncel Kurtiz, Aykut Oray, Ali Sürmeli, Nurgül Yeşilçay, Savaş Yurttaş and Ezel Akay.
