Devil (Şeytan) (translated)
Şeytan (Devil) is a 1974 Turkish horror film directed by Metin Erksan. Known as a nearly shot-for-shot Turkish remake of William Friedkin's 1973 film The Exorcist, it is counted alongside Drakula İstanbul'da among the earliest examples of Turkish horror cinema. Written by Yılmaz Tümtürk and produced by Hulki Saner, the film stars Cihan Ünal, Agah Hün, Canan Perver and Erol Amaç.
The story follows Gül, a young girl living with her mother Ayten, who begins behaving strangely after her birthday party. When doctors and psychologists fail to help, the family concludes that a demon has possessed the girl and turns to the expert Tuğrul Bilge, who teams up with an imam to free Gül from the malevolent entity. Made on a limited budget, the film remained out of print for years until its 2007 DVD release, gaining cult fame as 'The Turkish Exorcist'.
