Snow and the Bear

Snow and the Bear (Turkish: Kar ve Ayı) is a 2022 drama film directed by Selcen Ergün, who co-wrote the screenplay with Yeşim Aslan. Shot in Turkish, the roughly 93-minute film was produced as an international co-production between Türkiye, Germany, and Serbia.

The story follows Aslı, a young nurse posted for her compulsory service to a remote town gripped by a winter that never seems to end. Rumors circulate that the local bears have woken early from hibernation, and when a resident named Hasan suddenly vanishes one night, gossip spreads through the town and Aslı finds herself surrounded by suspicion and shared secrets.

Merve Dizdar, Asiye Dinçsoy, and Erkan Bektaş lead the cast. After screening at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, the film opened in Turkish cinemas on 8 September 2023 to middling reviews: on Beyazperde it averaged 3.3 out of 5 from press critics and 3.2 from site users, while the site's own review rated it 2.5.
