The Last Letter (Son Mektup) (translated)

The Last Letter (Son Mektup) is a 2015 Turkish war film written and directed by Özhan Eren. Set against the Gallipoli battles that peaked on March 18, 1915, in the Ottoman era, the film weaves the violence of the front line together with a personal love story.

At its center is Captain Salih Ekrem, one of the Ottoman Empire's first pilots. Having lost his wife in childbirth, he leaves his baby daughter with his mother and flies to Çanakkale, where he intervenes in an attack on a medical unit that includes nurse Nihal and rescues an orphaned boy named Fuat. Known to everyone at the front as "Little Gazi," Fuat draws Salih and Nihal closer; when Nihal returns to Istanbul for duty, their bond grows into a great romance sustained through letters.
