Splendor

Splendor is a 1989 Italian-French drama, sometimes described as carrying a note of romance, written and directed by Ettore Scola and produced by the Cecchi Gori Group. Marcello Mastroianni takes the lead, joined in the cast by Marina Vlady, the young Massimo Troisi, Paolo Panelli, Pamela Villoresi, Marcello Martana and Vernon Dobtcheff.

Composer Armando Trovaioli, a frequent collaborator of Scola's across several decades, provided the film's score. The picture had its high-profile premiere in the official competition of the 42nd Cannes Film Festival, placing it alongside the year's other major international entries. As with several of Scola's late-1980s features, the film reunited him with Mastroianni, an actor he had already directed multiple times, continuing a working partnership that spanned some of the most acclaimed Italian films of the period.
