The Abandoned (Terkedilmiş) (translated)
Terkedilmiş (The Abandoned) is a 2015 Turkish drama film written and directed by Korhan Uğur, his second feature-length work. It follows a Syrian family who fled the war in their homeland and become entangled with an organ-trafficking ring. The narrative revolves around an illegal operation in which the lives of nine people intersect, with most of the events unfolding in İzmir.
The cast includes Levent Ülgen, Hakan Vanlı, Sema Şimşek, Neriman Uğur and Hakkı Ergök, while Azerbaijani performers Gönül Nagiyeva and Kamran Ağabalayev appear as the migrant characters. Ülgen plays a wealthy man, Vanlı a homeless man, Şimşek a nurse and Ergök a doctor.
Shot in roughly two weeks, the film opened in cinemas on 15 May 2015. Produced by Saygın Film, it stands among the independent Turkish productions of its period to address the contemporary migration crisis from a local perspective.
