The Black Corsair

The Black Corsair (Il corsaro nero) is a 1976 Italian adventure film directed by Sergio Sollima. It draws on two novels by Emilio Salgari, The Black Corsair and The Queen of the Caribbean, an author known for his forceful denunciation of the harms of colonialism. The picture was not the first screen treatment of Salgari's tale: an earlier adaptation had been filmed by Amleto Palermi in 1937. Blending pirate adventure with action elements, the film features a cast that includes Kabir Bedi, Carole André, Mel Ferrer, Angelo Infanti and Sal Borgese.
