The New Barbarians

The New Barbarians (original title I nuovi barbari, also released as Warriors of the Wasteland) is a 1983 Italian post-apocalyptic action film directed by Enzo G. Castellari, who co-wrote the screenplay with Tito Carpi. The picture belongs to the wave of Italian genre cinema heavily inspired by Mad Max.

Set in the year 2019, after a nuclear holocaust has devastated civilization, the story follows two hardened loners drifting through the wasteland among the starving remnants of humanity. They take on the task of shielding a band of pilgrims from a ruthless gang whose goal is outright extermination of the survivors. Giancarlo Prete and George Eastman head the cast, with Fred Williamson and Venantino Venantini in supporting roles.
