Viva Algeria

Viva Algeria, originally released as Viva Laldjérie, is a 2004 drama written and directed by Nadir Moknèche. A co-production between Algeria, France and Belgium, it was shot in French and runs about 113 minutes.

Moknèche uses the fates of three women to examine social reality in Algeria, an approach echoed by the film's German release title, which translates as 'Three Women in Algiers'. The everyday lives of these women in the capital form the drama's backbone.

The leading roles go to Biyuna, a familiar face in Algerian film and television, Lubna Azabal, known for her international work, and Nadia Kaci. Positioned between North African and European filmmaking, the picture stands among Moknèche's works centred on that region.
