Warriors of the Year 2072

Warriors of the Year 2072 (I Guerrieri dell'anno 2072) is a 1984 Italian science fiction and action film directed by Lucio Fulci. Shot in Italian, it belongs to a trend in Italian cinema for stories of futuristic barbarians that emerged after the popularity of Mad Max and Escape from New York. The story unfolds in Rome in the 21st century.

In this future, the Romans have devised a new way of dealing with criminals: prisoners are forced to fight each other to the death like gladiators on motorcycles, with the battles broadcast on national television. The screenplay was developed from Elisa Briganti's story, with contributions from Dardano Sacchetti and Cesare Frugoni. Running 94 minutes, the film was also released internationally under titles such as Die Schlacht der Centurions and 2072, les mercenaires du futur.
