Ahmet Kural — Biography

Ahmet Kural is a Turkish actor born in Kütahya on November 10, 1982. Working in television and film since 2007, Kural has produced mostly comedic work, becoming widely known through his roles in films directed by Selçuk Aydemir and through the on-screen duo he formed for many years with Murat Cemcir.

Kural graduated from the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema at Selçuk University, then completed a master's degree at Bilkent University, while receiving his acting training at the Müjdat Gezen Art Center. During his theater training he was noticed by Levent Kırca and brought into the cast of the Oya Başar and Levent Kırca Theatre, where he gained his first stage experience.

He stepped into his screen career in 2007 with the series Fikrimin İnce Gülü, and around the same time appeared in Evimin Erkeği alongside Mustafa Uğurlu. This was followed by Gazi in 2008, Kahramanlar in 2009, and Bir Bulut Olsam, which also featured Engin Akyürek and Engin Altan Düzyatan, in which he played the character Harun. In 2010 came Elde Var Hayat, and in 2011 he began appearing regularly on television with Üsküdar'a Giderken, alongside Reha Özcan, Tülin Özen, and Öner Erkan.

His first major work in cinema was the 2008 film Güneşin Oğlu, directed by Onur Ünlü and starring Haluk Bilginer and Özgü Namal, in which he played a character named Ahmet. After playing Mustafa in Memleket Meselesi in 2010, in 2011 he drew attention for the role of Gürkan alongside Murat Cemcir in Selçuk Aydemir's Çalgı Çengi. The pair's 2013 film Düğün Dernek was a major box-office success, and Kural played the character Fikret in that film and in its 2015 sequel Düğün Dernek 2: Sünnet. His other film work includes Adem Kılıç's Oflu Hoca'nın Şifresi (2014), Çalgı Çengi İkimiz (2017), Ailecek Şaşkınız (2018), in which he played the character Ferhat alongside Saadet Aksoy and Ayda Aksel, and Baba Parası (2020), in which he played Selim.

On television, he stood out in 2012 with İşler Güçler, in which he played a fictionalized version of himself and his own profession, and that same year he also appeared in Behzat Ç. Bir Ankara Polisiyesi. In 2014 he played the character Metin Özdemir in Kardeş Payı alongside Oktay Kaynarca, Seda Bakan, and Devrim Yakut; in 2016 he appeared in Hayatımın Aşkı, directed by Ketche and also featuring Hande Doğandemir and Serkan Çayoğlu. He joined the cast of Bir Zamanlar Kıbrıs in 2021, and in 2024 he worked again with Selçuk Aydemir, playing the character Baki alongside Özlem Tokaslan in Gassal.

Kural's name became the subject of a court case that received extensive public attention over violence against the singer Sıla Gençoğlu, with whom he had been in a relationship at the time. Following the incident on October 29, 2018, the İstanbul 60th Criminal Court of First Instance convicted him on April 22, 2019 of insult, threats, and intentional injury, sentencing him to 1 year, 4 months and 20 days in prison, with the sentence suspended. After the ruling was overturned on appeal, the case was retried and the court handed down the same sentence again on July 14, 2021; the sentence became final when the İstanbul Regional Court of Justice's 30th Criminal Chamber unanimously rejected the appeals on January 11, 2022.

Ahmet Kural is married to Çağla Gizem Şahin, and the couple have two sons.
